FAQs

Does 6.0 include changes to The Events Calendar, or only Pro?

There are substantial performance improvements for The Events Calendar, and calendar views will load faster for all users who upgrade to the new system. The other new features (including Series) are only available if you have Events Calendar Pro.

How can I get the new features?

These new features are available in The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro 6.0. If you don’t have Pro yet, you can purchase a license to get access to the new recurring event features as soon as they’re released. The performance improvements are available to any user with The Events Calendar.

Am I required to migrate to the new event data storage system?

When you update your site to The Events Calendar 6.0 you’ll be prompted to migrate to the new event data storage system. Upgrading to the new system is the only way to take advantage of the new features. You can choose not to migrate, but we highly recommend that you do. Future development (including bug fixes and features) will be focused on this new system.

What happens to my existing events when I upgrade?

After you update to The Events Calendar 6.0, you’ll be prompted to migrate your events. The migration will transition your events from the old data storage system to the new one.

Can I add tickets to Series or recurring events?

This functionality does not include options for using tickets on recurring events or Series. However, the new system paves the way for us to build a full featured ticket solution for recurring events and Series–and that’s our next big project!

Why did it take so long to build and release the new recurring events system?

This project was a massive undertaking that required us to essentially re-strategize and re-build the recurring events system. Our current recurring events system supports a wide variety of complex patterns and use cases, and we made sure that the new system will as well. Getting things right took a few tries and a lot of work from the team. Additionally, we’ve done extensive testing to make sure the release is as robust and bug-free as possible. It’s been a long road, but we think it’s been worth it–and we hope you’ll think so too!

Can my Community Events organizers use Series?

By default, Community Events organizers will not be able to add events to a Series from the front end Add Event form. However, there is a filter you can use to allow organizers to add their event to an existing Series:

add_filter( 'tec_community_events_use_series', '__return_true' );

Managing Series will only be possible through the WordPress dashboard. Read more.

Do Series work with Filter Bar?

They sure do! If you have Filter Bar and Events Calendar Pro 6.0, you’ll be able to add a Series filter. You can see an example on the demo calendar on this site.
